Interesting to see that the discussion of disgusting drinks has devolved
down to Scandinavian ones. Being of Finnish extraction (distillation??)
I can claim to have some experience with this. I have never, repeat,
never considered swilling a snapps around in my mouth before swallowing.
My father would shoot me if I did. After singing (can't sing - two
or three will cure you of THAT problem), toss into that back of the throat,
*WITHOUT* the theatrical (and not-really-russian) toss of the glass into
the fireplace. The colder the better, although the freezer may be a BIT
excessive. My personal favorites for this sort of behavior are Lojtens
Akvavit, Bols Genever, and any good Vodka (not Finlandia, though - you
will never catch a Finn drinking that stuff, any more than they would drink
the god-awful Finnish beer).
These things are GOOD. As far as lousy drinks go, I find it hard to top
those sweet, sticky, coffee-based things that pretty much have to be
poured over ice cream or down the drain to keep you from throwing up.
And how about the beers of the great Northwest - Olde English 800 Malt
Liquor and Ranier Ale - vying for `horse-piss of the decade' honors.
"Och nu tar vi snappsen!!"
