	I also have a 1981 Accord Hatchback. It is the first NEW car I
	have ever bought and I like it a lot.

	I now have 80,000 miles on mine and have had a few unexpected
	problems. At about 30,000 the bushing in the shift lever died
	It just got hard to move the lever. The replacement was about $75.
	At 50,000 they said that the camshaft was wearing and would need
	replacing. I had it replaced at around 70,000 mles... one lobe
	was badly worn (maybe 1/8 inch gone) and another lobe was noticably
	worn. Cost for the replacement was $250. At 75,000 miles the cluch
	has started to slip under hard acceleration. The price quoted
	for the overhaul is $350.

> I get 32+ MPG on the freeway with the 1981 engine (1751cc CVCC).
> That's with the 5-speed but no A/C.

	Same here... 30-32 in all kinds of driving (WITH A/C).

> The interior is still in good shape; there are no rust problems;

	Interior is near perfect. No rust! I had a small scratch
	through the paint and down to the metal... only the bare metal
	rusted. The wonderful primer kept it from spreading and it
	was exposed for over a year!
