[net.consumers] Junk calls: a new angle

andrew@hammer.UUCP (Andrew Klossner) (01/08/86)

Well, it's new to me. At work, I pick up my ringing phone to hear an
operator tell me she has a person-to-person phone call for me. Sure,
put them on. Next I hear from someone who wants to sell me investment
coins. "We talked a few months ago about investing in coins ..." "Yes,
I told you I wasn't interested." <Click>.

Person-to-person calls aren't cheap. It occurs to me that these people
may be working in teams, with one pretending to be an operator, so as
to pay their flat WATS rates.

It sure got my attention ... this time. But I may start hanging up on
all person-to-person calls if it becomes ubiquitous.
