[net.music] Feminist blues songs

ryan@fremen.DEC (01/14/85)

If you're interested in feminist blues, try some Rory Block. One
song that comes to mind is "God's Gift to Women", a concert favorite. I
don't know what album it's on (or even if she's recorded it). It's sung
a cappela with handclaps and much (especially female) audience participation.

BTW, those of you in the Boston area may be interested in the
Festival of Women in Music, two evenings of concerts in the Arlington Town
Hall featuring Rory, Mimi Farina, Nanci Griffith, Priscilla Herdman, Kim
Wallach, Odetta, Lui Collins, Cindy Kallet, Cindy Mangsen, and Gail
Rundlett. They will be January 25-26; for more information you can contact
Folktree Concerts in Arlington (I don't have the number with me - try
information; or better yet, Wood&Strings Music on Mass Ave. can tell you
what you need to know. I've attended several Folktree concerts - they're
always a good show (well, Bill Fahey was drunk - he had some humorous if
unmusical moments).
