I've worn glasses continually since I was around 6 years old (I'm 20 now), and I'm thinking of getting contacts. I'm fairly near-sighted and have some astigmatism in both eyes. My eyes have gone steadily worse throughout the years; I need to get new lenses every couple of years or so. What are the advantages/disadvantages of types of contact lenses (i.e. hard, soft, extended-wear, etc.)? Any information would be appreciated. Albert Liu ihnp4!uiucdcs!aliu

The technology has reached the point that contacts are very good, and are well worth considering. >What are the advantages/disadvantages of types of contact >lenses (i.e. hard, soft, extended-wear, etc.)? For an answer to this is the kind of question you should consult a doctor. There are enough variables involved in contact lens selection that the answers will be different for each individual. For example: I got a pair of contacts last year and they worked great. I did have one lens changed to a different correction, and am now seeing better than 20/15 (much better than I could see with glasses). On the other hand, my wife is trying her fifth pair of lenses (four different types), and is still not seeing as well as she did with glasses. -- #################################################################### # uucp: decvax!linus!alliant!tj ## Bernese are mountains of love. # ####################################################################
