Read in the paper yesterday that Pizza Time Theatre Inc., the restaurant/ video game parlor chain created by Nolan Bushnell and his Atari millions, and dedicated to the proposition that video games and cute mechanical mice can compensate for crummy pizza, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Seems that they got a little overextended, and haven't been able to pay the rent on any of their restaurants this year. The last straw appears to have been the demand by the Bank of California that Pizza Time pay off some $50 million worth of debentures which it was trustee for. Bushnell seems to have placed too much emphasis on entertainment, and too little on pizza; too much emphasis on trying to attract the children, when it's the parents who are allocating the discretionary income. Besides, it's even possible that the pizza was soooo bad, it even turned off the youngsters (I wouldn't know - lucky me, I never enjoyed (?) a taste of their product). <sacrifice to first-line-eater> No wonder. I took my kids there once, let them play all the games & eat a pizza (one bite was all I could stomach). They have NEVER asked to return. Richard Patrick Symplex Communications ..!fortune!dsd!symplex!pat
