[net.consumers] Rya rugs

kolling@decwrl.DEC.COM (Karen Kolling) (01/27/86)

I have an Ege Rya area rug in my living room. This is a short (1 1/2")
shag rug in an abstract pattern of various shades of brown and white.
I want to get another rug for the same room, and what I think would look good
is a shag of about the same length in one of the Rya colors, medium
brown probably. The theory is, it will coordinate with the Rya, but since
the Rya is a striking rug, the new rug should be unobtrusive. Now the
problem: Ege doesn't make a solid color rug, and apparently other rug
companies think shag rugs are Too Gauche For Words. The only thing I've been
able to find as the result of a lot of store hopping was a disgusting looking
el cheapo shag about 4" long in any color I wanted as long as it was either
bright green or bright orange. So, does anyone know of a company that sells
something like what I'm looking for? Alternatively, in desperation I've gotten
some pamphlets from the Lundgren Rya company; the Lundgren folks sell
do-it-yourself kits and theoretically I could hand-make a 6 by 9 rug exactly
the way I want it. Has anyone ever tried hand-making a shag rug? I'd be
interested to know (a) about how long it takes per area, and (b) if it's
really true that you can work on small sections and sew them together
without the joins showing. Thanks.
