[net.consumers] I'm thinking of buying a heat pump.

Does anyone have any advice? I read the Consumer Reports
article. I didn't find it as useful as I usually find
their articles. Their chart dividing the U.S. into zones
didn't make sense to me. According to the chart, I'd be
in about the same zone here in the Willamette valley in
Oregon as I was in the last place I lived, Bozeman, Montana.
I'd think a heat pump would be much more efficient here.
Winter temperatures are much more moderate. I'd be particularly
interested in hearing from anyone who has a heat pump. Are
there things you wish you had known before you got one? Brands
to look at, brands to avoid? I understand the general principle
of heat pumps and the normal way to operate them but I'd
welcome some specific advice.

I'll summarize for the net any advice I get by mail.

Thanks,
Doretta Schrock
