[net.consumers] Credit card charge without expiration date

"Frankly, given a credit card number and a name, I have a great
feeling that it would not be difficult for any merchant to put
through a charge on your account."

Yes, I did this once a few years ago. A mail order arrived with card
number but no expiration date. I called the authorization center,
explained the situation, and was put on hold for half a minute, at the
end of which they gave me an authorization number (charged approved).

On the other hand, it's a lot easier to challenge a credit card charge
when the merchant doesn't have a signature on the sales slip, as was
the case for all my business. I used to worry a lot about someone
placing an order, receiving the goods, then telling the bank to cancel
the charge, but it never happened.
