I would like to reccommend two recent books dealing with
abortion.
1) RITES OF LIFE: The Scientific Evidence for Life Before Birth,
by Landrum Shettles, M.D. and David Rorvik 1983.
Dr. Shettles is best know for is pioneering work in in virtro
fertilization. He discovered and distinguished between
male and female sperm. He specializes in research in
fertility and sterility, hemmorhagic disease of newborns,
and sperm biology.
Rorvik is a science writer.
The book really should be read by those on both sides of
the issue, it really deals with the facts that are known.
2) THE UNABORTED SOCRATES, by Peter Kreeft 1983
Kreeft is professor of Philosophy at Boston U. (I think).
He has written the book as a dialog between a resurrected
Socrates and three opponents; an abortionist, a philosopher
and a psychologist. (Fictional Characters) The book
is an (occaisionally humorous) exercise in logical argument
on the issues surrounding abortion. Socrates does a
good job in dealing with the most common arguments for
abortion.
