[net.bio] scientist/programmer seeks job

ir62@sdcc6.UUCP (ir62) (06/06/85)

     I am an experienced scientist/programmer seeking a
position in scientific applications software development
and/or user services.

I have had several years experience in computing
applied to molecular biology and biophysics, with expertise
in several different machines (including VAX and PDP-11) and
operating systems (including VMS, Unix, and RT-11), high
level languages, and assembly languages, In my current posi-
tion at the UCSD Physics Department, I have developed a pro-
gram library (written in "C" under 4.2BSD Unix) for the
analysis of protein sequence data, including sequence align-
ment and the estimation of parameters useful for secondary
structure prediction, using database-derived sequences. I
have also worked on real-time i/o, data analysis, simula-
tion, and graphical display of biophysical data. This has
included system-level experience with PDP mini and micro
systems, involving hardware/software fault diagnosis, dev-
ice driver development, installation of peripherals, and
interfacing of laboratory apparatus.

I have had experience with several phases of the
software development cycle in these projects. This has
included primary responsibility for algorithm development
and implementation, coding, debugging, and documentation,
software maintenance, and consulting for research and cleri-
cal system users.

My programming experience has been complemented by a
background in biophysics laboratory research and teaching
experience, education in biochemistry and molecular biology,
and a broad interest in scientific problems. I can there-
fore approach a problem from both a scientific and a compu-
tational perspective. Consequently, I have been able to act
as a consultant to research group members on software
development, system use, and hardware and software acquisi-
tion. In addition, this work has given me familiarity with
applications of statistical and numerical analysis.

My resume follows. Please feel free to contact me at
UCSD (B-019 Dept. of Physics, UCSD, La Jolla CA 92093, 619-
452-2483).
