[net.bio] Data on human exposures to toxic chemicals sought

michael@ucbiris.BERKELEY.EDU (Tom Slone [(415)486-5954]) (02/20/86)

The Carcinogenic Potency Program of Lawrence-Berkeley Labs is seeking
human exposure data on man-made chemicals so that we can compare these levels
to the results of animal cancer tests. If anyone has information on the
exposure levels of any chemical that have caused concern because they are too
high, please inform us of the substance and the level of exposure. E.g.,
contaminants in drinking water, high level exposures from chemical spills, high
levels of solvents in homes, and pesticide use are unacceptable. We are not
interested in levels found in a particular hazardous wasted dump, contaminant
levels from smokestacks from manufacturing plants since the concentration
dissipates in ambient air. We use information only on single compounds, not
complex mixtures. References or individuals to contact would also be useful.
The Carcinogenic Potency Program maintains, analyzes, and publishes a
growing database of about 3000 experiments on about 800 chemical compounds.
Information on the carcinogenic effects of these chemicals on non-human mammals
(primarily rats and mice) are maintained and analyzed.
