I teach high school biology, and I would like to direct question to anyone in this group who teacher freshman biology in college. What would you like a freshman entering your class to "know" of perhaps just be familiar with? What are your biggest problems with incoming students in terms of inadequate preparation and what would you like to see done at the high school level to correct this. I am currently teaching at an academic high school in San Francisco. I have been approaching my classes in a "traditional" way, and have become unsatisfied with this. With all of the limits imposed by time and the degree of cognative awareness of my students, I feel I should focus on a few key concepts and forget the factual base ( they certainly will an hour after they leave my class). What is important, from your prespective? Philip Nicholls The Well, SF
