I would like to add my vote in support of TRS80 DOS's vs CP/M. Competition is a wonderful thing - or it has been with the TRS80. By contrast look at the apple II with its DOS out of the ark because no one wanted to be incompatible. CP/M is similar with very promitive functions and features to this day. If you want an improvement you have to go to ZCPR2 or something similar. The many competitive DOSs for the TRS80 are fantastic!. NEWDOS 80, DOS plus 3.3,3.4,3.5 4.0, MULTIDOS, LDOS were all born because people saw the shortcomings of TRSDOS and saw a possible market niche. There is an installed base of over half a million TRS80s so it was worth doing. Now along comes the Model IV and you can have the best of both worlds on one machine. I run CP/M 2.2 from Montezuma Micro and all my old TRS80 DOSs as well so nothing is lost. Why has it taken so long to get a net.micro.trs-80 group? - Mike Gingell, Raleigh, NC .....ecsvax!mjg
