I have worked with an Ohio Scientific with a disk drive. I have seen how one can 'call' a board from the disk dtraight onto the screen, or into memory. Does anyone know if this can be done on the TRS-80 mod 1? It can be done with basic, but this is really !* SLOW *! Is there any other way? If someone could post this info to the net, I'm sure it would be helpful to many. Thanx in advance. --johnc ... ( decvax, cornell, linus ) ! dartvax ! johnc

That's a funny way to put it - there is no such thing as 'calling a board'
on the TRS80 that I know of. Do you mean read a sector or group of sectors
from disk direct to screen memory. If so this casn be done fairly easily
directly in machine code and called from basic or other languages as a USR
or equivalent function. I can recommend the series of books on the TRS80
published by IJG with titles like Microsoft Basic decoded and other Mysteries.
The one that would be most helpful to you is called something like TRS80
Disk Machine Language and Other Mysteries. It contains complete info for
the Model I and III on reading and writing disks using machine code.
Alternatively all you need is a DOS call to read a specific file. If you
read your TRS80 DOS manual you will find it's all documented.
