/* ---------- */ Yes, folks, you read the title correctly. Radio Shack is going to discontinue the Model 4P (portable) computer from their line, probably within the month. The gentleman at a local computer shop (also an RS dealer) couldn't believe it, but the decision has been made. RS is going to produce a portable version of the 2000, saying the 4P's inability to expand beyond 2 disks precluded further use of the system in the RS computer line... Also, if you've wanted a Model 4 desktop, if you can wait a few months, you'll pick up one for about $1,000. RS is evidently getting ready to move into the Apple-type computer systems for the home instead of business, and the 50% price reduction on the 4 is a step in that direction .. David Whitney !ctvax!uokvax!uok!dwhitney /* ---------- */ I am amazed how easily lies and rumours can be spread. Did you bother to check the above with anybody (possibly including anyone here at trsvax???) I won't say exactly how far off base you are, but somewhere out of the ball park and down the street may apply.

Thank God !!!! I almost had cardiac failure when I read that one !! I think the 4p is a great machine!!! It needs a little more publicity from the Shack and alot more software for the Model 4 mode, but it has super potential and is still within the affordable price range of the semi-serious home user. LONG LIVE THE DECENDENTS OF THE FAMOUS MODEL I !!!!!! Steve Lorenz AT&T Consumer Products Montgomery Works ihnp4!mgweed!spl

His information , which he relayed to me, was straight from Fort Worth. Considering Radio Shacks own folks probably wouldn't pass such "lies and rumors" to its dealers unless they had a certain basis in fact, so please refrain from calling folks such names!! (I certainly wouldn't have posted such a note if I thought it was merely rumor..)

I AM IN FORT WORTH!!! After talking to the man who DESIGNED the Model 4P, I know for a fact that it is not being discontinued. After talking to several 'reputable' dealers (including those here in Tandy Center), I have come to the conclusion that they generally don't know much about Tandy's marketing plans. Case in point: the computer that I designed came as a complete surprise to the FW area dealers when it was announced.

#R:uok:20500004:uok:20500006:000:520 uok!dwhitney Jun 22 10:24:00 1984 You folks at FW deny up and down that the 4P is going to be discontinued. Fine. Deny it all you want, but the folks at FW are the same folks who swore up and down that the Model 1 would never be discontinued, and then swore up and down that the Model 3 would never be discontinued, and then promptly discontinued BOTH of them, so pardon me if I don't give your claim much credibility (which is fine, 'cause you don't give my posting any crediblity, either...so we're even...)
