<I'm dreaming of a fixed note handler, just like the ones I used to know....>

Zork is/was available for the Model I or III. The only version available
from Radio Shack is Zork I.
The Model I version is not listed in the catalog anymore, but it used to exist.
The Model III version is listed as 26-1951 and the Model I version was 26-1950.
With that number you should be able to scare up a copy.

Failing that, you can contact Infocom, the people who bought the rights
from the real developers at MIT. I recall seeing an ad a few years back
boasting that they had all three pieces of Zork ported to TRS-80 systems
and that they were the only place you could get Zork II and III.
(For people familiar with the MDL (muddle) version, it was so large they
chopped it up into three chunks and simplified the mazes and such.)

If you are a Model 4 owner, you can hack the Model III version to run in
Model 4 mode with just a few hours of work. I recommend a good file
editor for the task. I used LSFEDII which is available from Logical
Systems. Likewise, the Model III version should be modifiable to run
on a Model I with even less work. To get the files onto a Model I/4 disk
from a TRSDOS 1.3 system disk, you will need a liberal copy utility,
like the one in NEWDOS.
