[net.micro.trs-80] From the ancient days...

johnsi@lasspvax.UUCP (John Sievers) (09/04/84)

I was wondering if anybody still owns any trs-80 model 1's. I happen to own
one that I bought about 5 years ago and over the years all of its brothers
have slowly died off or have been sold away. My computer is old and weak
and tends to reboot every time I attempt to do anything useful on it, but I
hope that someday I will be able to transfer all of my efforts to some other
computer so that the countless hours of work will not be lost. So it sits
in my room waiting for that magic piece of hardware/software that will copy
everything into a form that I can use again. I realize that I could always
print out everything and type it all into an IBM PC which uses microsoft
BASIC. The problem is that it would take hundreds of hours of work and I
just don't feel like sitting around typing in programs all day.

     Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes! There is another old Model I working in computer land...
In October's 80micro magazine there is a program to convert basic
programs to MS-Basic. I have had the reboot problem before I fixed
it by cleaning all the edge connectors. If you want more info contact
me.

First, clean the PC board connectors with a "Pink Pearl" eraser. Better
still, tin them with solder containing a small amount of silver. That
should eliminate your random re-bootings.

I'm still using a Mod I. I've installed the Omikron Mapper
and run CP/M 2.2 almost exclusively. With the TRSCPM (or is
it CPMTRS) program, you can copy TRSDOS-format files to CP/M format. In
addition, this makes available much free, public domain software from
SIG/M and CPMUG. I'll send more info if you want.

Above all else, NEVER SAY DIE! The MOD I will live forever!
