[net.micro.trs-80] TRS XENIX and related software

dmak@watarts.UUCP (Derwin Mak) (04/24/85)

This is sort of a response to the request for discussion on TRS-XENIX.
I have used TRS XENIX on a model 16 for almost a year now and find
it to be a reasonably good system. I think PROFILE16 is perhaps the
most underrated data base program in the microcomputer world today
(If you liked profile 3+, you'll love profile 16). I have also
used multiplan and mbasic on Xenix. I am very disappointed by
multiplan's not allowing spreadsheets larger than 64K (sort of an
MSDOS type feature). MBASIC is about as fast as PC basic on integer
operations but offers a significant speed increase in floating point
operations.

Now some questions for all those out in net land. How much better
is Xenix 3.0? Is it really 3x faster? How good is the Xenix
development system? Is it worth $950 (Canadian)?
