[net.micro.trs-80] Info wanted on Tandy Model 100

hall@ittral.UUCP (Doug Hall) (07/04/85)

I have a friend whose organization recently bought 95 Radio Shack
Model 100 portable computers. They all have 24K RAM, and my friend
wants to upgrade them to 32K. There is a small panel on the bottom of
the machine which upon removal reveals two IC sockets. One socket is a
standard 40 pin DIP socket, and the other is an easy-insertion-type 28
pin DIP socket. I would like to think that the 28 pin socket is the
one used for RAM expansion and that plugging in an 8K CMOS static RAM
(6264?) would do the trick. It's probably not that easy.

Does anyone have one of these beasties? Does anyone have information
(or pointers to information) on the internals of this computer? Radio
Shack wants $119 for the 8K expansion plus $15 to install it. Is there
a better (cheaper) route? Any info on the subject would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
