I just got a new printer (model LTR-1, manufacturer unknown) for my TRS-80 model 100, which does not advance the paper when a carriage return character is received (that's what the newline character is for). I wrote a short BASIC program that prints out text files by putting cr-lf's in the right places, but it is not general and a big nuisance. I remember reading somewhere that there was a reasonable way to patch the TRS-100 printer driver to put a newline after carriage returns, without having to replace the ROMs or anything horrible like that. Can anyone tell me how to do that? Please reply by mail. If interest warrants, I'll summarize. Hardware solutions (e.g. some logic or a ROM inserted into the parallel data lines to turn CR's to NL's since this printer happens to return the carriage on receipt of an NL) will also be considered, although they are uglier. Thanks as usual. paul rubin uc berkeley
