[net.micro.trs-80] hard driver needed

nga@mtuxo.UUCP (n.antimisiaris) (08/23/85)

I need help in locating hard drive drivers for the model 4p
and trsdos 6.0. I have the percom 15 meg hard fixed drive which
comes with ldos 5.1 drivers for the model 3. Percom seems to be
out of bussiness and logical systems doesn't seem to want to help.
Please help.....

<I've been waiting for you, buggie whan...>

What you need to do is hop down to the Radio Shack store and order
TRSDOS 6.2.0, part 26-0316. It's price varies depending on what
sale/promotion is going on, but I believe you will be able to get it for <$40.
Inside you will find TRSDOS 6.2.x and a BASIC Interpreter disk,
and a disk called Hard Disk Initialization. (Might ask the store
manager to open the package and check before you spend the money.) Anyway, the
Init disk has the drivers and formatter you need to run any
hard disk that has a Western Digital WD1000 or WD1010 controller,
that is port-compatable with the Radio Shack version.

If Percom used a different controller, you are on your own, but I believe
theirs was almost identical to Radio Shacks version.

P.S. If you are using a 4P, be sure to press <f2> or <2> each time you
boot the hard disk system using a floppy start-up disk (if you
plan to run in Model IV mode), or else it will cause the floppy
drives to make lovely grinding noises.
