[net.micro.trs-80] termcap

johnw@reed.UUCP (John Windberg) (09/06/85)

Still looking for a TERMCAP setting that will allow
my model III to talk properly with Reeds Vax 780 using unix
I use videotext plus from rad shack.
I have started writing my own entry, but have little info
that will help me in this project.
I have the termcap entry for Ron Bemis's trs-term
but would still like to use my vidtex if possible.
I haven't been able to translat trs-term yet anyway.
Any info would help..
Thanx in advance..

Someone mailed me a response to my search for a termcap
setting for a model ii using vidtex plus talking to a unix
system the entry started with 't3' i slipped and lost it
if whoever you were could send it again I would appreciate it.
thanks

Since this termcap may be of general use, I'm posting to the net rather than
mailing to John. It runs vi, and plays hack and rogue well on my 4p. Having no MIII vidtex, I've never tested it in that environment. I'd appreciate it if	someone would let me know if it works there.

It is available on most of the UNM UN*X machines.

Rhetorical question:

Is there any demand for net.caves?

Since this seems to be of general interest, and since our termcap entry
seems to be a little more complete, I thought I'd post it.
[I was one of the people who sent you mail...]

The "vidtex1" entry should work for the Model III as well.

The above information is being provided by an individual and should not
be taken as being provided officially by Tandy Corporation. They probably
think I'm working on an important source file called "/tmp/nf6235"!

Your entry exactly matches the one I have
created of a combination of other responses.
And it indeed works on all combinations
described. The only problem is in vidtex not
having reverse scroll. At low baud 1200 or
less this is very irratating..
I am studying and Ron Bemis has said he will
post info later about his trsterm.
I have gotten it to work well with vi as vi
does not request a cm (cursor motion) entry.
Rogue talk and others do..
Maybe if someone out there in computerland
knows what the cm entry might be Ron has not
returned my last message..
who knows...

Can anyone explain to me the cm (cursor
motion) entry in a termcap entry. I have a tc
entry for vidtex and would like to get the one
I have for Ron Bemis's trsterm to work
correctly. VI works well, but I have been
told it does not use the cm setting. Talk and
other programs do not work correctly and I
believe it is the cm entry.
thanks in advance..
