[net.micro.trs-80] Getting around the Tandy Device

*NO* situation like this is "Plain and Simple".  Tandy is not so  stu-
pid  as  to think that taking compatiblity or adaptability out of pro-
duct will better sales.  They have market studies to prove it.  To the
contrary,  in  our latest version of 68000/XENIX, 3.1, we do have sup-
port for other modems and example source/object to use.

One of the really agonizing decisions that have to be made by our mer-
chandising  folk  every time a new product is released (like XENIX was
back then) is the point of diminishing sales.  That is, at what  point
do  we  stop developing a product, and start selling it?  Where is the
point where potential customers will stop waiting for a  new  product,
and go elsewhere?  This is one of the reasons the original versions of
68000/XENIX didn't have dialing  support  for  other  modems,  it  was
correctly  judged that we didn't have time to make XENIX all things to
all users for the initial release.

I really like how Mr. Perlberg left out the part of my  response  that
stated  we  did have support for other modems in our latest version of
the operating system, and that what I was  describing  was  the  older
version.  Real cute...
