YOUR MESSAGE The Tandy 6000 has been out for over a year now. XENIX 3.0 has been out for about the same time. The problem is that the most recent version of the XENIX Development System is based on a (rather ancient) version of V7 XENIX. Does anybody know if Tandy ever intends to release a version of the Software Development System based on XENIX 3.0 (or 3.1 or ...)? I'm starting to get a little tired of my local RS Computer Store dealer telling me that a new version of the Development System will be out 'real soon now'. Sorry if sounds like a mild flame. It could be because I'm a bit burned about how long it has taken Tandy to get this out. P.S. I'm in Canada. It's possible that the delay is due to Tandy Canada. Consequently, if a 3.? based version of the Development System is already available in the USA, could someone please tell me. mail replies to: alberta!myrias!dab

Well it seems to me that Tandy is doing a very poor job. (gee thats an under- statment) I got my 6000 about a year and a half ago. I put in for the Dev. System about 3 mo's later It took me 6 mo's before I could even talk them into leting me have the 3.00.00 Dev. System and then 6 more before I got my hot little hands on 3.00.01. I have been ripped of just one to many times from R/S than I care to remember. When I got the 6000 I also was sold mbasic for the system. I got it home, and used it for about a week till someone on the system pointed out to me that it was not the lates copy of Mbasic! I then looked in the catalog and sure nuf... I got on the phone and called the person that sold it to me, his reply was: "Yes I know that, I don't have any instock right now, but I was planing on calling you when it came in." My ass! it then took me 14 phone calles and 3 weeks before I got the word that the newer mbasic was in. I got to the store and he hands me a disk. I asked him whats this? he replys: "We under orderd this and a guy that was waiting for Mbasic came in got the last one.. But I made this copy to hold you over till I can get a new one in." Yes, one and a half year later I still have no doc's to mbasic!!!! Well now that I am on a roll here. and theres no stoping me now. I spoted in the old doc's to mbasic the command peek and poke. I called up the suport line and asked where I could get a chat for peeking and pokeing memory. I was then told that we (R/S) don't have one, and if you poke at random you could just about kiss your filesystem goodbye. I then asked if there is not chat for peeks and pokes, and its not wize to use the command's then why the hell are they in the book.. there reply: "gee, Thats one on me, I don't know." Gee thanks alot. Now lets talk break downs and fixes Going back to the good old days of my Mod I. I had a 5 meg hooked up to the Mod I, and one day it just stoped working. I took it in and it was fixed for the price of 35 bucks.. (they cleaned it) also I might add the drive was gone a week and a half. 2 weeks later same thing.. I took it in they cleaned it!!! gone 2 weeks this time, and 35 more bucks. 2 days later... how did you guess.. but this time: "you need a new plater" 300 bucks. gone 2 weeks. Key board for the mod I breaks down. I took it in. took thme 2 weeks just to get around to looking at it. reply: "Needs a new $300 mother board, you would be better off tossing it out and geting one of the old mod 4's we never got to sell" I told them no thanks.. took my keyboard to a guy I know that fixes T.V.'s 2 days later he calles me up.. tells me he has it working.. I went over to see what he did to it. His reply: "I just took this wire and hooked it here and thats it." talk about someone with a pissed look on there face!! I have about 20 others I could tell you but I have to stop before I burn up. Sorry to get off the subject, but yes Xenix 3.00.00 and 3.00.01 Dev. Systems are out and you should be able to get them.
