The school I go to is seriously thinking of computerizing the Art Department and the Industrial Arts. I REALLY NEED reviews of each of the following computers (reviews not only about the machine but software too): Amiga, Atari 520, Mac, and the Tandy 2000. I need reviews in the following areas: cost, hardware (what comes with the base unit and what is available not just from one particular company)*, software (what comes with the machine and what is available)*, support (technical & demonstration for hardware AND software), bugs, and problems. *-Please limit the topic to hardware and software pertaining to art and industrial art (mostly drafting). No publications of replies will be made other than maybe the net if there is enough replies for a good-posting. I will accept any reviews dealing with any of the computers I have listed. ALL will be valuable to my report. Thank you, Gregg Thompson P.S. PLEASE do NOT post replies, instead mail them to me. {philabs, decwrl, ihnp4, ucbvax, seismo, microsoft}!decvax!cwruecmp!ncoast! greggt

I am sorry Gregg, but a few very vocal supporters of the Mac and Amiga have been very active trying to suppress comparisons of the various machines. Only owning a lowly Apple 2, I thought the comparisons (not to be confused with the slander about 'toy computers') were useful for 'the rest of us' who are considering a purchase. Maybe a few brave souls will once again sneak in a comparison of the amiga and the new 1040st. But beware of the flames that will deluge you ( and I am sure to get them for this ---DONT BOTHER, I DONT READ EMAIL FROM OFF-SITE). In the meantime, you might check the March Byte. Bruce Webster has a flawed comparison of the Amiga vs Atari vs Mac. What I found especially interesting is the price/kilobyte of memory bar chart listing over a dozen computers. I think the review is flawed because he compares vaporware for one machine against deliverables for another machine, and does not use standard, base systems for his comparison (a 2-Mbyte Mac, com'on Bruce!). -- Mike Eve Boeing Aerospace, Seattle ...uw-beaver!ssc-vax!ssc-bee!eve

A quick note of PLEADING! PLEASE don't post news to a half dozen net.micro.XXX groups! I get damned tired of having to flush the article a half dozen times as I go from group to group.. <flame off> Charles Lord Triangle Research & Development Corp.
