<reserved for the line-eater> Is there enough interest to warrant starting a TRS-XENIX users mailing list? I for one would be greatly interested in such a group and I would be willing to maintain the mailing list. Considering the number of Model 16/6000's in circulation there *MUST* be some interest out there. I propose that the mailing list be used for: 1. A collective voice that can be heard in Ft. Worth. I can't help but get the impression that Tandy regards independent software developers as a nit picking group of hackers that can't be pleased. Maybe, just maybe, if there was an organized effort something might be done by the Texans to fix some (dare I say, most) of the problems that arise by using the Model 16/6000. 2. A group that can share net software postings that have been modified to work under Xenix. I see no reason why 20 programmers at 20 sites must all spend time porting a particular piece of code. When someone successfully ports a program they could, via mail, let the other users know of it's existence. Further, since many UUCP sites object to large UUCP requests that are of no use to the relay sites, individual sites could allow direct UUCP access for mailing list members. I, for example, have working versions of Xlisp 1.4, MicroEMACS 1.6, jive and Decus CPP running here on my Model 16. I would like to have the MSG mail system posted on mod.sources running here and I'm trying to get it working (yes, I know that's ambitious). 3. A group using the same application programs and can share hints and/or tips on the best ways to use them. For example: if you run Scripsit then you know how unpleasant it can be writing one of those cockeyed config files to use a new type of terminal. Another use would be for posting bug reports that can possibly be solved by members of the list instead of listening to a busy signal eminating from Ft. Worth, TX or talking to a tech who would sincerely like to help you but the company that he works for isn't motivated to spend what it actually takes to have decent software support. If you would be interested in such a mailing list please mail the following information to me at ihnp4!chinet!mdr!blm: full name organization computer (model 16, Xenix 03.01.00, 768K RAM, 35Meg HD, 6 users, etc.) various programs you use (Unify, Rm/COBOL, Scripsit, Profile, etc.) UUCP address relative to ihnp4 I would appreciate any comments, suggestions and/or *constructive* criticism of such a mailing list. Personally, I think such a mailing list is long overdue. I will summarize to the net the amount of interest in such a mailing list. ----- Brad L.
