[where the bug sups, there sup I] The bug-prevention line, see above, is now firmly entrenched in the Usenet Mythology. It is challenging the signature line as a place to put cute messages. But I wonder how many Netusers know what it really does. Mark Horton tells us periodically, but does anyone listen? Is the bug still there? Does anyone know? Therefore... A S U R V E Y ! Please take the time to answer the following questions. Please MAIL your answers to me. I will tabulate the results and post a summary when the response tapers off. Please *DO NOT* post answers to net.misc, because you will bias the response of others. Answers will be kept confidential. Questions 1) Have you noticed the [bug killer] lines on Usenet articles? yes/no 2) Do you put them into articles you post? yes/no/don't-post-articles 3) Do you know (or think you know) what these lines are supposed to do? yes/no 4) If your answer to (3) was yes, please explain the nature of the bug and the bug-killer line. 5) Do you think the bug still lurks in the net? yes/no 6) Even if the bug is eradicated, do you think the bug-killer line should be retained as a valid form of self-expression? yes/no 7) What is the best bug-killer line you have seen?
