Given that people *drive* on the left in England, do they also
*walk* on the left? The general consensus is that they, indeed, do
walk on the left when any order is observed at all. In addition,
certain train tracks and highways passing left or right were mentioned.

A recent report which studies mitochondrial DNA presents the possibility
that most living humans had a common female ancestor about 50K years ago.

Times Zones: their history and the existence of zones offset from GMT
by non-integral multiples of one hour.

Diet Coke has adopted a blend of Nutrasweet (aspartame) and saccharine.
They didn't go all aspartame due to cost.

A rather comprehensive report of Harris' line of GaAs IC's with
propagation delays in the 3 ns range

Short topics: planned obsolesence of GM cars, warning against "Better
Living" Magazine and its ilk (lifetime subscription for $4), history
of Harbor Sweets chocolates, an electro-stimulation technique for
relieving back pain, programs to print "Merry Christmas" 15 times
in *many* languages, comments on "Consumer Reports" magazine (favorable),
an offer to post articles for those who can't, a survey of bias in
the teaching of world history, a number of people discussing the 49th
parallel and that all of the US is below it, discussion as to whether
or not USENET is a member of the press, identification of "whatever
happened to Exxon Office Systems, the desirability of long articles,
the use of "worm" instead of "hacker", a call for printed circuit
board software, and a program to clear a WANG 720

The Cabbage Patch Dolls: Why do people like them? Answer seems to be:
the unique design of each doll, the adoption papers and the birthday card.

"Walking to the Left in England" expanded to include the use of eating
implements: forks appear to be used differently in different countries.
In addition, it was asked whether tilting of the head during kissing
exhibited the same regional left/right differences.

Arguments for and the announcement of the new net.celts newsgroup.

The results of the previous survey asking for sites which were involved
  in ocean-related work.

Also: Four Christmas posters (artwork), explanation of Kosher as being
ritually clean as opposed to "only" physically clean, an observation
that New Hampshire never legally adopted the 55-mph speed limit so
70 mph is generally accepted, a call for the collection of humorous
"famous last words," a reference for the Turing language, and discussion
of the bias exhibited in history lessons (slanted toward the country
  of residence).

and even more people flaming the people who posted to the wrong newgroups
and even MORE people flaming the people who flamed the people who posted to
the wrong newgroups.
