DECtalk was to appear on the Jan 24 Today Show in the context of
helping handicapped children to communicate.

Discussion of liquidifying kids (!= (liquifying || liquidating) them) -
actually about liquid diets &c.

Considerable discussion on advanced programs in conventional schools:
features, benefits, HAZARDS, political motivations & class
discrimination, advanced programs vs. skipping a year, and so on.

Child molestation: incest, trauma, etc.

Montessori Education: the good and the ugly (two different, competing
organizations using the name Montessori: caveat emptor).

Inquiry on home teaching; followup refers to current Mother Earth News
article on this topic.

Prenatal kicking vs postnatal wakefulness, sleep cycles, etc.

Inquiry and several articles on snugli(tm?) and other brands and styles
of baby carriers; both pro and con.

Numerous articles on last names for kids: hyphenation, multiple names,
creative new names, etc. No real concensus, other than: discuss it
between you and your spouse, decide what's best for you & your kids.

Baby furniture
Is "Dimension 4" furniture, which grows with the kid,
	good, gimmick, or rip-off?

Recommendations on home schooling, including the
address for the "Growing Without Schooling" newsletter
	by John Holt.
Re: Home Teaching - (nf)
``Anyone smart enough to post an article to netnews can do
a better job'' than the bozos in today's public schools.
Dealing with Family Disagreements
One method of getting the family together: all sit around
a table and write `what bothers me' lists.
Sparked followsup about the particular tasks the kid
in this family gets to do.
Re: What's in a name?
Carried on from before. Several articles. Moving around
to taking fathers' names (`, Jr.' and 'III'); several more
	articles.
Catch-22 for gifted... [special programs, skip-a-year, etc.]
Wasting less of your life in a stupid school system is
a Good Thing, but having to be `peer' with people several
years older while growing up is a Bad Thing.
For Randy D. Smith only
Why is this here? Because somebody gave out a wrong
mail address, and the sender wanted everybody to see
that he really was trying to get through to Randy.
Mothers stay home
Working Mother stung by stereotype: ``all the other
mothers stay home'' when picking the kid up from daycare.
In fact the other mothers work too; how is this
stereotype reinforced, and I wish it would leave me alone.
Superman vs Darth Vader
Who would win if they fought? [Please send the correct
answer by *mail* only, do not publish this secret information
	on the net...]
Jungle Gym Plans or Kits
Request for places to get plans (or kits) to build
play structures, swings, ``Jungle Gym'' [tm?] style
mini-gymnasium, etc. Several followups said that
Popular Science and/or Popular Mechanics are good bets.
Cat's Cradle
Posting of the Harry Chapin song (popular a few years
ago) as a ``reminder of what's important with kids.''
An original LBJ
A light bulb joke about two year olds. Not repeatable.

Keep those kids and letters coming, folks...

Working parents and sick kids (7 articles)
Staying home with sick kids
"kids...most important"
Recent discussions in net.kids centre around a discussion of
what to do when both parents work and a child is sick enough
to need care (but not sick enough for long-term hospitalisation).

A side discussion arises from the contention that one's
childrent should be *the* most important part of one's life.

MCOSS Nursing svcs. in Monmouth County, NJ, USA
Another side discussion from the above. A home
nursing service for sick kids - they make house calls.

More About Love (2 articles)
This belongs in net.religion; the poster of the original
agrees. Let's hope the other posters catch on.

A "new" medical technique (2 articles)
Putting children (in this case premature infants) at the mother's
breast rather than in an incubator increases their survival rate.

Temper Tantrums
To listen, or not to listen, that is the question.

Stillborn
	Pathos for a stillborn baby.

Recommendation of Century car seat
More on car seats for kids' safety.
