<> >Plow? whatsa "plow"? we use SALT! Helps out the automakers >and the road builders, don't-ya-know? Salt? How the hell do you use salt to melt a foot or so of snow? Here, they plow and sand. The sand stays on the road(side)s forever, and helps out the paint shops and auto-glass places - especially when one of our notorious 100+ mph winds comes up. -- ...Cerebus for dictator! > Salt? How the hell do you use salt to melt a foot or so of snow? Easy, just use a foot or so of salt! > Here, they plow and sand. If you're getting 100+ mph winds, I wouldn't worry about sand, I'd worry about tree branches, pedestrians, etc. We had ~70 mph winds yesterday, they blew over some nice heavy "permit parking only" signs in the parking lot. Gee, I'm glad I don't have a permit to park in those spots! Felt sorry for the poor kids out in the driver's training cars. GM cars are hard enough to drive normally, much less when you're just learning, have a bozo yelling at you, and sudden 70mph side winds! -- _____ /_____\ That auto-crossing beagle, /_______\ Snoopy |___| BMWCCA, Windy City Chapter ____|___|_____ ihnp4!ihuxl!seifert

You also worry about Dumpsters if they have wheels, sheets of plywood at building sites, power and telephone lines, outdoor tables,...but you don't worry about smog building up in the valley. Above about 50 mph, we measure wind velocity in either degrees - the angle to the vertical you lean when walking in the wind pounds - the size of a more-or-less round rock that the wind can lift (as in a "five pound wind") -- ...Relax...don't worry...have a homebrew. Plow OR salt OR sand?? In Sweden we use all 3 just to make sure! And studded tires to really work wonders with the roads (helps with the grip on ice, but that's relatively unimportant :-)).
