I suggest that all those interested in go should join the American Go Association, which sponsors tournaments and publishes the American Go Journal. The cost is $15/year; write American Go Association, P.O. Box 397, Old Chelsea Station, New York 10113. Over the past few years there have been articles in AGJ, I think by Terry Benson, about both large-scale and small-scale strategy from the point of view of trying to quantify things for writing a program to play go. I don't think much progress has been made in actually contructing programs; I've heard of programs which operate at very low levels, <15-20 kyu, but don't recall seeing anything specific in AGJ.
