Here's the format that I've been using for 13x13 play-by-mail Go games. Anybody have any comments and/or suggestions for better formats? The traditional presentation of boards is with A and 1 in the right corner. The letter I is eliminated to reduce confusion. Thus the letters go from A through T for a 19x19 board. I heard a rumour that in Japan, some people who want an extra challenge are playing on 21x21 boards. Is there any truth to this? --- {ucbvax, decwrl}!sun!{amarr} "Extraordinary how potent cheap music is." Noel Coward

To clarify: that is traditionally A and 1 in the LOWER right corner. --- {ucbvax, decwrl}!sun!{amarr} "Extraordinary how potent cheap music is." Noel Coward

Yes, some players, probably professionals, have tried 21X21 boards, I've read. Apparently, the combinations, possibilities, and richness of such a large board are so mind boggling to those who can appreciate it--such as professionals--that it isn't used formally or often. Us little players in the kyu (and gup) and low dan ranges would probably notice only that games took 20-25% longer to play.

I played go a bit when I was in undergraduate school, but haven`t played any in years. If there is anyone out there in the net who is willing to pbm with a rank and rusty beginner (who could use some comments and criticism as well as play). I would be delighted to get started again. Bill Oliver
