It seems that net.games.go could serve as a nice place to initiate play-by-mail games. Readers of this board could post ads such as "13k wants stronger opponent" to find an opponent and "Opponent found" to let people know that the ad has expired. These games could then be played via netmail. In addition, we could discuss a standard format for pbm games. I've discussed the idea of writing programs to assist playing Go by netmail with several people. Net.games.go would be an ideal place for sharing such programs. If there is enough interest, perhaps this netnews could be turned into a netland-wide Go club. At Carnegie-Mellon, our Go club is rather small, especially during the summer. While I was in San Fransisco for SIGGRAPH I had a chance to attend a meeting of Berkeley's Go club because a friend of mine had a pbm game with one of the Berkeley club's members. Through the use-net we could not only enjoy the benefits of a larger pool of players, but also make acquaintances with people who we'll later meet while travelling. Rick Busdiecker rfb@cmu-cs-h

I don't know what my kyu is. There are eight players I beat here, and four who can beat me. I've never played go at a "club" (except here). I've been playing go since age 15. I've played maybe under 100 games. I'll play anyone. 1. D3 (black). Send me your move (white) or a black move 1 if you like. If you start a game with me, let me know your rating if you know it. {ucbvax, decwrl}!sun!{alan, amarr} --- "Extraordinary how potent cheap music is." Noel Coward

Good idea. Where can I sign up for the net go club membership? HonWah Chan
