Here are some noteworthy historical events from the Celtic calendar: Nov 1 - Samhain (pronounced "Soun" like the English word sound without the d) Beginning of the Celtic year - most important holiday. Nov 5 - New York Gaelic Society formed in 1878 (and still active). Nov 7 - Angela Duval, Breton poet and nationalist died - 1981. Nov 9 - Dylan Marlais Thomas, Welsh poet, died - 1953. Nov 10 - Padraic Pearse, Irish revolutionary hero, born - 1879. Nov 19 - Theobald Wolfe Tone, Irish patriot, died - 1798. Nov 23 - John Loudon McAdam, Scottish engineer who developed the macadam road died - 1863. Nov 29 - C.S. Lewis, Irish writer of fantasy and science fiction, literary and religious scholar, born 1898. Nov 30 - St. Andrew's Day - patron Saint of Scotland.
