[net.nlang.celts] Stonehenge, an anthropomorphism

When my family visited Stonehenge in 1971 (we were able to wander
among the stones then), I was struck by the fact that many of the
vertical stones seemed to have suggestions of faces or bodies on
them. I took slides of about 6 or 8, ranging from very clear to
very vague in their human features. Making allowances for weathering,
it seemed possible that many of the vertical pieces were once
statues. Have other people speculated about this, or is there
evidence suggesting the contrary?
