This is not a direct answer but may be interesting nevertheless: There is a series of four fantasies by Evangeline Walton, based on the Mabinogion and printed by (I think) Ballantine paperbacks: The Isle of the Mighty The Song of Rhiannon ... (can't remember) Prince of Annwn [sic]. I recommend them heartily. There is also a series of books, allegedly for adolescents, by Lloyd Alexander, about "Taran the Wanderer." One of these, "The Black Cauldron," is the basis of an animated cartoon feature soon to be released by Walt Disney Studios; it is also based on Welsh stories including the Mabinogion.
