Our local Public TV station, WUNC, normally has the Pertwee episodes running week nights at 11:00. Tuesday night they showed a Twilight Zone episode instead. A message flashed on the screen saying that due to a shipping error, the last episode of 'Monster of Peldon' would not be seen that night. The next night, the last episode wasn't on either, but 'Planet of the Spiders' was. After 30 minutes, I was wondering where the break in the episodes would be. After 45 minutes, the screen when blank, and the next show started. There were no ending credits. How are the Dr. Who episodes shown in the U.K.? Are they broken into ~30 min. episodes, like they are here? Mike Mitchell duke!mcnc!ncsu!mcm

The typical Dr. Who episode length is 25 minutes give or take a bit. The BBC have made several Christmas specials by editing together the episodes of a story. These are typically 75 minutes in length (for a 4 episode story). I'm not aware that the BBC has sold these to any other TV stations. I've just remembered that when KTEH first started showing Dr. Who (Baker) they had some episodes that had clearly been edited for American television. They had an American accented voiceover narrating the story and parts of the episodes were left out. To me it was like watching a cinema film edited for television. The episodes were ruined. Thankfully these seem to have sunk without trace (at least on KTEH). They may even have edited some episodes together. Maybe what you saw was one of those butchered episodes. -- From the Tardis of Mark Callow msc@qubix.UUCP, decwrl!qubix!msc@Berkeley.ARPA ...{decvax,ucbvax,ihnp4}!decwrl!qubix!msc, ...{ittvax,amd70}!qubix!msc
