[net.tv.drwho] Tom Baker companions

klotz@ihuxe.UUCP (Dave Klotzbach) (01/04/84)

Dr. Who(Tom Baker) had 4 lady companions, 3 left during his tenure.
Who were they?
When did they leave?
Why did they leave?

Hint: One got married! who and when.

This one I can answer, although actually Tom Baker had more than 4 lady
companions, even if you don't count Romana I and II as different companions
(which I do, and I really don't care if you disagree.)

Sarah Jane Smith - A carry over from Pertwee's time. She was a
journalist and a feminist, although she didn't
mind the doctor's help on the many occasions she
got in trouble. She left before the doctor left
to Gallifrey for The Deadly Assassin because he
thought it too dangerous(as though Daleks aren't)

Leela - Picked up after The Deadly Assassin, she was a savage, and
much different from all past and current companions. She
always wore the leather breaches and carried the dagger. She
left to get married when Gallifrey was invaded, The Invasion of
Time I believe the episode was. She married a Time Lord
		guard.

Romana I - She was told to go with the doctor during the Time Key
season. She had graduated top of her class, and was a
general know-it-all and a pest (in my opinion).

Romana II - Romana regenerated for no apparent reason for Destiny of
the Daleks (maybe to stop being such a pest.) Now she
was a knockout blond, who Baker married in real life.
She was also now a "good budy" of the doctors, especially
compared to what she was before.

Nyssa - She was picked up on Trakken when her father the Prime Minister
was taken over by the Master. I haven't seen too much of her,
so I'll refrain from commenting on her character, which seemed
rather whimpy in Keeper of Trakken.

Tegan - I think she was forgotten in the question that I'm answering.
She was picked up in Logopolis, and I believe she's still
around. I haven't seen much of her either, but I gather she's
not too well liked from some of the articles I've seen.

I'd like to hear what other people think of the doctor's companions also.
Specifically, which are your favorite companinions of the various doctors.
If I get enough response over the mail I'll post my findings to the net.

Also, did anyone get a videotape of The Five Doctors. I managed to miss it
by a fantastic combination of bad luck. I would appreciate it if some one
could lend me a copy.
