[net.tv.drwho] Adric out, Who's in?

Well, I don't know about everyone else, but I kind of liked
ol' Adric, what little I saw of him. Eventhough he was a real
clutz, he offset the doctor quite well. It did make the show
a little more like the others, where Sarah Jane was always into
something.

Can anyone confirm or refute a rumor I heard the other day?
Someone told me that this present doctor (number five) was
going to be regenerated again, for some reason. I think it
had something to do with the actors quitting or something.
It wasn't untill next season though.

If this is true, I would be kind of glad. This doctor
doesn't seem much like the doctor I knew (number four). He
(#4) seemed alot like the doctor should be, not like this one
is. Anyway, happy time traveling!

I recently ran into a magazine called 'Fantasy Empire' at the local
bookstore. It is a semi-prozine (a little higher level of writing than
Starlog or Tiger Beat, but not much) written specifically to cover english
TV sf such as Dr. Who and Blakes 7 and Dr. Who and, well, you get the idea.
Lot's of Dr. Who. The issue I read happened to have an interview with
Davison (about the level of 'Where did you get that NEAT stalk of
celery?'). They announced that the Dr. would regenerate about the 4th
episode of the current BBC season. This means, I assume, another new
direction for the Dr. It turns out that Davison is actually acting in THREE
tv series in England, and it may be that the BBC is having problems with
him spreading himself too thin.

Its funny, but I can't decide whether I like Davison or Baker better as the
Dr. I have been force feeding myself Dr. Who recently since I am a
relatively new convert, and I have been seeing a lot of both (its nice
having TWO stations in the area showing it...) I think the real problem is
that there IS no comparison. They are two completely different characters,
and the shows have entirely different feelings to them.

If I had to choose, I would probably say that I prefer Davison, because I
get the feeling from him that the responsibility he has weighs just a bit
too heavy on him, so he always seems to be stretching himself just a bit.
I am also glad that he zapped the sonic screwdriver, because it was just
too pat a solution for too many problems. On the negative side, I can't
stand Teegan and the other one (much too whiney for me) and with Adrick
gone, he really doesn't have a foil to play off of (I liked Adrick).

With Baker, he was always a bit too flippant for me and I got the feeling
that he had read the script and he knew he was going to be OK, so why
worry? He did get all of the good lines ('You know you're never going to
get away with this' 'What makes you think that, Doctor?' 'Oh, I don't know,
but it made me feel better') and I loved the way he and his cohorts played
off each other (especially K-9). I guess if I could get them to put
together Davison, Romana and K9 I might be happy, but I doubt it.
