Thanks for all the opinions in response to my posting on the 5 doctors episode. Opinions are, after all, purely personal. However, I would appreciate an explanation of what I consider an inconsistency in that episode. The entire objective of the exercise was eternal life. However, the Time Lords *already* had eternal life at their disposal. In "The Brain of Morbius" we learn that the Sisterhood of Karn had been supplying their elixer of life to the Time Lords. The time lords, recognising the trap of immortality had used it purely for medicinal purposes. However, the elixer *was available* to use in a manner simi- lar to the use by the Sisterhood. This implies (to me at least) that the elaborate scheme to get at Whathamacallit's ring was unnecessary. On to another (general) question. Having attained my weekly fix of the Doctor on the Telly... I would like to know about the various categories of Robots that the Dr. has encountered. I will list the ones that I have seen (In no particular order)... 1. The Giant Robot (no name?) in Tom Baker's original episode. 2. The Fastest Robot in the Universe from the 5 doctors. Has this been seen in any other episode? I'd love to see how the Doctor deals with this one. 3. The robots in the episode "Robots of Death". The doctors voice was unaffected due to his double circulatory system? What does that have to do with the natural frequency of the diaphragm? The following may not strictly be Robots, but they're close enough for me. 4. The Cyber Men. 5. The Daleks (EXTERMINATE). Is anyone aware of any other shows involving Robots? They do seem to be a favourite adversary of the Dr. According the descriptions posted previously, the Autons may be considered Robots. Robots, you say? Well, I can remember 1. The IMC robot in "Colony in Space" 2. The Tereleptils' robot in "The Visitation" 3. Sutekh's robots in "Pyramids of Mars" 4. Assorted androids in "The Android Invasion" 5. A robot-like entity in "The King's Demons" 6. And, of course, K9 (I guess he qualifies). The robot in "Robot", by the way, was called "K1" (not to be confused with...) As for "hybrid" entities, those which are either partly organic and partly mechanical (like Daleks) or else entirely mechanical in body but possessing genuine consciousness (like, I presume, Cybermen), I can think of 7. Mr. Sin in "The Talons of Weng-Chiang", and 8. The non-organic beings in "Four to Doomsday". I'm almost sure there are others. (E.g., I haven't yet seen "Androids of Tara", but I'd be surprised if there weren't androids in that one.) "Have we been here before, or are we yet to come?" N. Tinkham duke!nlt
