[net.tv.drwho] Bye-Bye Call Box

hobbit@sunybcs.UUCP (Thomas Pellitieri) (02/14/84)

I see rumor has raised its ugly head....

The Chameleon Circuit getting fixed? WHY??? Barry Letts and Jon Pertwee
thought about that during the 8th/9th season, and realized it was a bad
idea!

<flick> <flick> <FLAME ON!!>

Who the h*ll does John Nathan-Turncoat think he is? First he gets rid of K-9,
then the sonic screwdriver, and now the call box! I am not fond of JN-T, and
I think he is making a BIG mistake!!

<flame off...>

Sorry. Anyway, I think that the American Fans (most of whom have NEVER seen
a British police call box) should start a letter writing campaign to J N-T
to keep the Chameleon Circuit busticated. Or maybe we should just hire a
bunch of Daleks to invade his office 8-)

Any votes on the subject?

Getting rid of the police box in doctor who is not, in my opinion,
a bad idea. I realize I am going to get many flames for this opinion, but
let them come.

One of the things that I think is so fantastic about this show is
that it does change. Each doctor has been very different, companions have
come and gone, every thing changes. This is, as mentioned, something very
special in the doctor.

Thus, getting rid of the old police box will be different, but will
also open up new ranges of possibility. Who knows what it will wind up as?
(No pun intended)

I, for one, am not in favor of losing the call box. Having it
appear in setting where "it just doesn't fit" is part of the
fun.

(excuse the above, should be "settings", I shouldn't try to type
during the Friday beer bash... :-) (hic) )

If the call box is replaced, what with? I don't like the idea of
it's changing from episode to episode. Is there a sensible
reason for the change? eg: it's structually unsafe after being
hauled around for 20 years?

I agree that it is nice to see something different with
each of the doctors, but I think something has to be the
same, or it is like starting a new series with the same
plot. I feel that whoever made the decision (I know, it
isn't final yet) to scrap the callbox has made a bad
decision.

GET RID OF THE CALL BOX? I was appalled when that jerk Davison busted
the venerable Sonic Screwdriver. And I still haven't recovered from
seeing K-9 roll off with Romana #2 in E-space. HERESY! HERESY!

Fluke in the 5 Doctors: How did Sarah Jane recognize K-9? They
never met one another.
