<*> What I posted is all I know "on authority". However, here are my guesses in regard to the ambiguities: "Alternate rows", I think, means one of a) 1 row of each color, repeating, for 4 inches, or b) two rows of each color, repeating. "a" follows the text more literally, but I think "b" would give a better-looking finished product, so I'll probably follow "b" when knitting mine. I don't think it matters what color one starts with. My guess is that "claret" is dark red, though I've seen the word (in another context) used to describe a light red/dark pink color. I suppose our best bet is to examine the scarf as it appears in the late Baker episodes. (But it's awfully distracting to be counting the number of purple rows in the scarf while the Doctor's busy saving the universe.) N. Tinkham (duke!nlt) P.S.: I, too, found K-mart to be a good place to find yarn. Roses was also helpful, as was (of all places) a local drugstore. Craft/yarn/knitting shops were, on the whole, not worth the bother.
