I recently picked up a fanzine hoopla-ing the 20th anniversary of Dr. Who (in a B. Dalton of all places!). It contained all sorts of goodie info the best of which I found was an A-to-Z listing of all of the companions, including mini-bio's and when and why the character signed on with the doctor and why the character left. Indeed, under the listing for Romana II was the tid-bit that the actress (who's name escapes me now) did marry Tom Baker, although they are now seperated. (An instance of the BBC emulating Hollywood, much?). Not suprisingly it seems most of the actors who have played companions have left acting. Most going to Australia or having families and becoming telephone sanitizers and the like. Notable exception was Jean Marsh of Upstairs/Downstairs fame who played a short stint in 1965. Also the actress Mrs. Tom Baker (for lack still of a better name) alias Romana II can be seen as Ophelia in the BBC's Hamlet with Derek Jacobi. Romana I was in The Odessa File, as well as a supporting role in Jane Eyre of Masterpiece Theatre of a few seasons ago. ***I promise to submit a reader's digest version of the companion listing as soon as time permits (within, say, a month!).*** [Unless it's been done - somebody reply since I'm just back to the net after an almost 3 yr absence.] Did anybody in the NY metro area catch WOR (channel-9) showing of a movie - Dr. Who and the Daleks - on the 'Fright Night' movie at 2am Sunday May 13? Starred Christopher Plummer as a most William Hartnell like Dr. Who. Really horrid movie-making, but I did video tape it. Also, New Jersey (Public broadcasting) Network has begun to show Dr. Who episodes as one long serial one Saturday nights starting at 9pm. They have even taken the unheard of (in the NYC area) action of actually buying episodes beyond the well worn-out Tom Baker and {Sarah-Jane and Leela}! [Share and Enjoy] M.
