[Theta Sigma is NOT a fraternity!] A while back, I had posted an inquiry on whether or not the lost story "Shada" should be finished. (reference:<245.sunybcs>) I have only received three responses, two giving reasons for not finishing it, and one saying that there might be a chance. Here is a summary of the three responses: ---------- >>> From rocksvax!ritcv!ccieng5!rlgvax!cvl!andie While at a Dr. Who convention in Philadelphia, Tom Baker said he would be willing to go back and finish up Shada since there was so little left to do on it. So there's one hurdle overcome! Diane Donaldson >>> From watmath!ihnp4!stolaf!umn-cs!digi-g!brian I asked Douglas Adams about Shada when he was in MPLS promoting "Life, the Universe, etc". He said that continuing with Shada (or any interrupted show) is very difficult because it's hard to get ALL the same actors, due to scheduling problems (a lot of Dr. Who actors do stage plays, radio, etc. which weren't on strike). Also, the sets might not exists anymore, and have to be rebuilt. What it comes down to is this: it is actually MORE expensive to pick up where you left off under these circumstances, and so they chucked it. This doesn't explain why they couldn't have started shooting from scratch, as if Shada was the next show on the schedule. I've seen some of the rushes, and it looked ok, but I don't like the idea of yet ANOTHER Time Lord lounging around on Earth, etc. You can only have so many Time Lords and Tardi running around in the universe, and everything. >>> From: decvax!ihnp4!uw-beaver!uw-june!gordon As to whether "Shada" will ever be completed, I agree that it will not. The producers of the program(programme?) were seriously considering finishing it right up until Tom Baker announced that he was leaving, when they finally gave up the idea. They hadn't been able to actually go about finishing it for reasons of the scheduling of other episodes of the show; they were planning on doing it when an opening appeared; it never did. A shame, really, since Douglas Adams' stories have been among my favorites. Jamie Green ---------- Well there you have it. 3 out of 3 "net.whovians" who would like to see the story completed, but doubt that it would ever happen. I'm sure all of you feel the same way. -- -- --Jim P.
