Hmmm, I thought everyone who knew about the Dr. Who movies also knew that they were absolute drivel compared to the show. The movie is fairly interesting on several points, tho. Peter Cushing plays the "Doctor". He is an old, fairly skinny character with a quavery voice. In the movie, the Doctor is an eccentric professor-type with two daughters, Barbara and Susan. In the Hartnell series, Susan was the Doctor's granddaughter, and Barbara was a schoolteacher who becomes curious about Susan, who seems very bright, in fact, too bright. By far the most terrifying transformation was undergone by Ian, who went from a fairly sharp teacher of science to a bumbling suitor for Barbara who walked around (or rather stumbled around) calling Peter Cushing "Doctor Who". [Wince] Except for the few changes to get the show going, the plot basically follows that of the second Hartnell serial, which has been novelised by Lyle-Stuart as the Doctor Who book "The Daleks". These Daleks are taller than the usual Baker/Davison ones I am accustomed to seeing, and they have lights on top that flash when they speak. Finally, they are not armed with lasers or zap guns or blasters or whatever, but with what are essentially fire extinguishers! They hose you down and you collapse in a cloud of gas... quite funny, really. Anyway, the novelisation covers the basic plot, and you just have to see the movie to appreciate precisely how bad it really is, so I won't go on. Did anyone else notice that the guy who played Alydon, one of the Thals, was also Surak, the Vulcan teacher in the Star Trek episode "The Savage Curtain"? He was listed in the credits as Barrie (sic) Ingham, and the guy who played Surak was named Barry _____, (don't remember the last name), but I am sure they are one and the same. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "TWO of them?
