[net.tv.drwho] TARDIS energy source?

pjk@hou2a.UUCP (P.KEMP) (10/30/84)

Sorry if this has been asked/discussed before
but:

What kind of energy source powers the TARDIS?
What is known about it?

I know that sometimes the Doctor jettisoned or
converted rooms into energy for extra "thrust"
in emergencies.

I thought I heard the name of the energy
source mentioned in "Four to Doomsday."

Since I didn't get an answer the first time
through, I'll try this again:
(This newsgroup has been quiet lately anyway.)

In The Deadly Assassin, we learn that the source of
the Timelord's powers is a black hole (the eye of harmony) which
is held in some kind of balance with the (main city) of Gallifrey.
I have often thought that somehow there is a receiver of some sorts
on the Tardis to harness this energy source.
But then I saw Time Flight the other night where we find out
that the Master's energy source is dead and he is trying to steal
a new (infinitely powerful) one. This would imply that there is
a distinct source of power within each Tardis.
Well, there's my 2 bits worth.

I believe it is the same source which powers all of Gallifrey.
That is, Omega. (The Time Lords captured him a long time ago).

Almost right. The EYE of HARMONY powers all of the timelord's
time capsules.

Our local public TV station just broadcast 'The Three Doctors'.
In that episode, the doctor(s) are caught in the same black hole
as Omega, who was trapped there himself while creating the energy
source which powers all of Gallifrey and the TARDIS'. It seems
to have something to do with the interaction of matter and anti-matter.

That black hole is the EYE OF HARMONY.

So, who said the show was consistent?

I always thought that the TARDIS was powered by 'Archon
Energy,' which not even the Doctor fully understands. I'm drawing this
conclusion from 'Four to Doomsday,' so I'm not sure if it was just a
sham to confound the frogs or what.

Not exactly...the EYE OF HARMONY, which is the source of the Time Lords'
energy, is a black hole held captive under the Panopticon. It was placed
there by Rassilon. Omega's black hole is a different one. Omega was the
first of a series of solar engineers, culminating in Rassilon.

In one of the episodes(Sorry can't remeber the title) the Doctor(Baker)
mentioned something about using the gravitational fields(attraction)
between planets or some such thing. Anyone remember or care to comment.

Good grief! You mean the Eye of Harmony is made of _d_i_l_i_t_h_i_u_m? :-)

(I suppose it could be worse; they could have used Kryptonite...)

Wait a minute.... could it be that this explains the Transwarp
drive used in Star Trek III? Don't tell me the U.S.S. Excelsior is
just an overgrown TARDIS with no Chameleon Circuit? -)
