In keeping with my promise, here is what happened at the NYC Creation Convention on Saturday, March 16 (I wasn't there on Sunday, but the schedule was rather similar): At about 11, the main area of the convention opened, where about one third of the things sold were Who in nature At about 11:45, The first Colin Baker of the new season, Attack of the Cyberman, was shown. If I said anything bad about CB based on the very end of Caves of Androzani, I immediately take it back: he is GREAT!!!!!! JN-T has a lot of fun with the TARDIS in this one: The Doctor fixes up the chameleon circuits, and a while after materialization, the TARDIS turns into an obelisk in the middle of an open parking lot. Later, when they materialize some other place, it becomes an organ: Colin Baker comes out, plays the first few notes of Bach's Tacotta and Fugue, while the rest of it plays afterwards as part of the background music. Wonderful story. At 12:something, a "Dr. Who and other" plot contest (I didn't go) At 1:40, a "Dr. Who and other" trivia contest, in the usual manner: A Panel of four was chosen among the audience, and other members of the audience proceeded to ask them questions. If they couldn't get the right answer within a certain amount of time, a member of the audience was chosen to answer. If that person got it right (i.e., in addition to the panel getting it wrong), both the asker and the answerer got some sort of prize (Jellybabies, a Dalek pencil case, Doctor buttons, etc.). If the panel got five questions right in a row, they got $10 each. Normally, it was very easy to fool the panel, and yet be able to have a Whovian in the audience answer the question. Loads of fun. At 2 or 3:something, a Doctor Who sound alike contest: the usual: K-9, Daleks, Companions, Doctors. Not very interesting. At 3:something, an auction of Doctor Who among other stuff. No major discounts on Who junk/material/stuff/items. At 4:25, the time you've all been waiting for, JOHN NATHAN-TURNER. He said a few things about the cancellation (It looks very unlikely that there will be a reversal), but looked on the bright side, the extra time that he'll have for better stories and scripting, and very possibly a movie (see Armstrong's article on this). A few people asked some questions, and it was interesting, but nothing terribly important was said. At 5:05, the second Colin Baker story of the new season, Vengeance on Varos, was shown. I didn't see it, but it's supposed to be as good as "Attack." The new Colin Baker quote: "Watch...[pause]...Listen...[pause]...and Learn..." A. G. Later, when they I hate to disagree, but the first time the Tardis appears as a different shape, it was in a junk yard, NOT a parking lot. The Doctor even commented about it being a familiar place.
