Before I start this pointless note, I just want to say there is no evidence that Dr. Who will be cancelled in 1986. I think I'll talk about... ADRIC. He's always good for a laugh. He started out as a serious character, but they just couldn't keep it up; He was only ever there to link between the Doctor-Romana-K9 period and the Doctor-Tegan-Adric (Nyssa wasn't a companion) period. His original conception was the leader of a street gang in State of Decay, a young thief who would steal compulsively and whom the Doctor would have to teach. Once it became clear that Baker was going, it was altered. He was introduced in Full Circle as an insecure teenager and a link between not just the different "feel" but a different Doctor as well- Davison. (Though it was not known at the time.) The stealing was still mildly included (In State of Decay) because the fans had been told he would be thieving. Once Davison was established (After Castrovalva) the scripts stopped treating Adric as an important companion and more like a laughable character that could be more or less ignored (Like Harry, also a link between UNIT and outer space stories) In Full Circle through to Logopolis, he was great in his discussions with Baker, but the actor himself (Matthew Waterhouse) was very bitter by the time the Davison era had killed him off. He was firm in the belief that his character had been abused in scripts- Hyperinteligent one moment- idiotic the next. (Also, there was that eating! In Earthshock, they might just have killed him by luring him into outer space with food.) I wonder if Peri (Who seems to be a link of the first order) will get the same treatment or if she'll be gotten rid of... or perhaps JNT has learned his lesson. That's my theory about Adric, anyway. Now stop moping around. Doctor Who is here to stay... "Like it or not... I AM THE DOCTOR!" (Twin Dilemma) Charles Kupperman.
