[net.tv.drwho] Questions

holly@dartvax.UUCP (Holly Cabell) (04/15/85)

I have several miscellaneous questions to ask:

1) Could someone out there tell me how much a membership in the
Doctor Who Fan Club of America costs? Also, what comes with that
  membership?
2) Does anyone know of any stores in the Boston area that sell
Doctor Who stuff--posters, t-shirts, etc? If so, could you give me the
  adress?

Thanks in advance.

I have several miscellaneous questions to answer.

1) I am an old member of the DWFCA and unless you live an a BIG city,
it's really not worth it. (Boston wouldn't even qualify.) They're HUGE
and impersonal. They're good for information, but that's about it.
Also they're too American to be good. They're notoriously cute and "smurfy"
and they coined the hated word, "Whovian." They're not close to home,
but they try to make up for it by being "folksy." At any rate, $5 will
get you a little card with the typical puns telling you you are a true
"Whovian," and a subscription to their newsletter, and finally a badge
that changes colors. Neat, huh?

2) I am much more positive on this one. I lived for a while in the Boston
area, and am on speaking terms with a few store owners. In the Harvard
Square area is your best bet. First there's a shop right in the centre,
next to a restaurant with a bizarre name, but I can't remember the
restaurant's name. At any rate, the restaurant is huge, the store small.
Ask directions somewhere. The store's called "Science Fantasy Bookstore,"
and it just moved there. (There's a triangle, you enter the square from
_____________ the front, SF bookstore is right on the left side, look
\ /*Million Year Picnic. for the sign. Then there's Million
\ / Year Picnic, which is on the right
\ \ / side, before the travel service with
\* \ / Science fantasy Bookstore.) the catchy slogan, "Go away... often."
Then there's Newberry comics. SF Bookstore is a PM magazine "Best whatever."
If you go there, say hi to Spike from me.

Charles Kupperman,

*** EXTERMINATE THIS LINE WITH YOUR TARDIS ***

	Okay:
1.) The membership is about $5, but might have gone to $10.
(It's been a while since I looked.) You get a fanzine newspaper
that keeps an up-to-date posting on DW, as well as reviews,
questions/answers, and more. You also get a pin or two, and some
other nifty stuff (All of which I can't think of right now.)

2.) The stores in the Boston Area, hmmmm. Well, I always go to:
-->	Million Year Picnic at Harvard Square (Get on the Red Line)
			99 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge
-->	Cosmic Connections in Waltham (New address, so don't ask me now)
Any one of the five (or is it six by now) of the
	-->		Superhero Universes.
Scattered Locations in and around Boston, all accessable
-->	Any well stocked Paperback Booksmith.

If I forgot any out there, sorry, Haven't been back home since the
semester started. (GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!) So the address of the last
three can be posted from anyone else, possibly from the MIT groups.
